What is Academic integrity?
Academic Integrity is the deeply held belief that all intellectual and academic work should be done honestly by the individual or group submitting the work. When you use information, knowledge, concepts, and direct wording from other sources, you must give credit to those sources. Academic Integrity forms the basis of intellectual property rights. It is rooted in values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage.
At Jacksonville University, students are expected to do their own work and complete their assignments honestly. This helps to maintain the value of JU’s degrees and the quality of JU’s graduates. At the same time, JU’s faculty recognizes that “to err is human,” and that some students make bad decisions due to ignorance. JU’s Academic Integrity and Misconduct Policy consequently balances accountability with education, holding students responsible for their actions while also providing opportunities for students to learn and grow from their mistakes.
Mission: The Mission of the Office of Academic Integrity is to promote a culture of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage in academic and intellectual pursuits. We achieve this goal through: 1) ongoing education of students, faculty, staff, and administration, and 2) vigilant reporting of violations of academic integrity accompanied by penalties at the course and university levels.
Vision: All members of the Jacksonville University community will uphold the highest standards for honesty concerning sources of information, truthfulness in the representation of information, and respect and trust for each other. Incidents of academic misconduct will be lower than the national average and Jacksonville University will be a model for schools throughout the Southeast region.
