- Can I earn my Master in Public Policy (MPP) and Juris Doctor Dual Degree through the
J.D. program at the Jacksonville University College of Law?
The College of Law is not offering any dual degree programs at this time. Non-law students at JU may enroll in College of Law classes, which may be counted in their degree programs as elective credits. However, law classes completed prior to admission to the College of Law will not count toward a J.D. degree if the student later is admitted to the College of Law.
The Master’s of Public Policy degree program allows students enrolled at any ABA-accredited law school to pursue dual degree options from those institutions. The JU College of Law is currently pursuing ABA accreditation, and hopes to participate in the program in future years. For more information about what stage the College of Law is in the ABA accreditation process, please view the "Accreditation Information" below.
- Is the College of Law accredited?
The College of Law has been granted provisional accreditation by the American Bar Association (ABA), and, in accordance with ABA rules, will continue to pursue full accreditation. Law schools that are provisionally accredited are entitled to all the rights of a fully approved law school. Similarly, from an ABA perspective, graduates of provisionally approved law schools are entitled to the same recognition that is accorded graduates of fully approved law schools. - What is a character and fitness evaluation?
During the law school admissions process, applicants will be asked questions about conduct in the past - academic discipline, college residence hall violations, criminal charges, even what may seem like minor traffic violations. These questions are the first step in assessing your character and fitness for the legal profession, and how you respond to them can have important implications not just for your admission to law school, but for your admission to the practice of law. - Do I need to submit a character and fitness evaluation?
Yes. In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners. - The questions will be included in the College of Law's application.
- Does the Jacksonville University College of Law provide pro bono legal services to
the community?
At this time, College of Law faculty and students are not offering any legal services to the community. We encourage our students and faculty to volunteer with organizations in town that support the legal needs of Jacksonville-area residents. If you are in need of pro bono help, please visit the Jacksonville Bar Association's listing of local legal services.
